When you purchase a PS3 it says on the box that they are not compatible with the PS2. Yes for certain PS1 game titles and no for the more complex PS2 games. If your older PS3 model has 4 USB ports you have one or the original PS3s that could play PS2 games They were sold as Backward comparable with the PS2 games, but they will not play a number of game titles
