The vestibular organ in the inner ear help an animal mantain its balance. It helps an animal keep its posture and monitors the movement and position of the head. The vestibular organ consists of two structures, the semicircular canals and the otolith organs. The semicircular canals tell an animal what direction it is moving in such as up, down, left or right. The canals also register changes in speed. The otolith organ are gravity receptors. They tell you if your head is tilted. This is much the same as a humans inner ear.
