If you have an alcoholic relationship, life is unsettling and changeable. It is very difficult to maintain a relationship with an alcoholic, possibly because they are so uncomfortable with themselves and are in partnership with their drink of choice. Some are very productive and can maintain a good job. Some are not abusive, just have to have their drinks. Others only drink socially at bars and do not feel that they are addicted. Any change has to be made by them (not by you policing them) and may not be sustainable through a lifetime. Visit AA in your town and talk to people who are in the same situation to get a perspective.
