Away from it. Veins carry it back. Away from the heart. Arteries are the transportation systems of oxygen-rich blood to all of your body's cells. Veins, easily seen from their oxygen-starved blue color, carry oxygen-deprived blood cells to the heart, which pumps to the lungs to start the process over again with oxygen-rich blood cells.

Arteries carry large amounts of blood to the major parts of you body, i.e. brain, heart, down your thighs. Viens and blood vessels are smaller versions of arteries. Because blood is continuosly pumped throughout your body, all of the blood carried eventually leads back your heart.

Usually, yes. The Pulmonary Arteries carry deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs, while the marginal, anterior and ventricular arteries carry oxygenated blood from the heart back to the heart muscle itself.
