How is a persons lung capacity affected if the person suffers from asthma?

If you have well controlled asthma your lung function should be relatively normal between attacks. The way to develop well controlled asthma is to see your doctor on a regular basis, take your asthma medications exactly as prescribed. There are about 10-20% of asthmatics who may develop severe asthma, and this may be due to repeated uncontrolled asthma exacerbations or by other things, such as smoking cigarettes, that cause lung scarring, or chronic airway changes, withing the lungs. These severe asthmatics may develop some degree of permanent loss of lung capacity. Otherwise, the only time your lung capacity will be diminished is while you are having an asthma attack.

Does smoking help stop allergies?

I have severe asthma and also have a history of smoking although I do not currently smoke. A lot of non-smokers and doctors will tell you how bad smoking is for an asthmatic and to some extent they are correct although it is not as black and white as health professionals claim. Smoking does help asthmatics bring up phlegm and this can help asthmatics breathe better. Smoking may help asthmatics lose weight and this improves lung function as well. When quitting smoking, many people get sick on and off for a year or so. Asthmatics can sometimes experience much more lung problems during the year after quitting smoking. I had pneumonia twice after quitting smoking. Other considerations involve the severity of asthma and the amount of smoking. Someone with very mild asthma who is a light smoker may not suffer many consequences. As a severe asthmatic who was a heavy smoker, I suffered more consequences. Smoking is not good for you but quitting is a personal decision that only the smoker can make. When health professionals harass smokers it often makes them want to smoke more. Stress also contributes to asthma. Take it easy on yourself and do your best.

Why is wheezing usauly worse when asthmatics exhale?

exhaling causes negative pressure in the airways of the lung structure. the weakened muscular wall of the airway responds to this negative pressure by collapsing inward narrowing the airway. result is air flowing through a smaller orifice creating a wheezing sound.

Does ASTHMA effect your heart rate when exercising?

Asthma affects pulmonary (lung) function which in turn affects cardiac function. Reduced cardiac output is one of the more serious aspects of a severe acute asthma attack. This will result in an elevated pulse even without exercise. Exercise for asthmatics should be done after a medical evaluation and commenced in stages. Do not rush out and commence a high energy aerobic workout. Gradual development of exercise tolerance should be a goal for all "active" asthmatics.

Which is better a heart transplant or a lung transplant?

One is not "better" than the other - they will both perform exactly the same as a non transplanted heart or lungs. Neither will make the patient bionic or superhuman. A patient with heart failure would rather have a heart transplant than a lung transplant, and vice versa. It's whatever it "better" (more useful) for the patient, but neither hearts or lung transplants are "better" overall.

What are the advantage of cloning?
