It isn't very popular at all. I think only a few people breastfeed past 6 months. A lot don't at all. I breastfed, and still am, and my daughter is almost nine months old.
What ever age you feel comfortable breastfeeding to. Our culture looks down on women nursing their babies much past 12 months old. This is a sign of ignorance and immaturity on the part of our culture. It is traditional across all cultures to nurse well into the child being a toddler. It is my recomendation that women change the backwardness of our culture by caring for their children through breast feeding them for 3 to 4 years.
