All ladybugs bite. I've never heard of black ones, but if they really are ladybugs, they can bite if they think you're going to hurt them.

No, black ladybugs [Cryptolaemus montrouzieri] don't eat leaves. In fact, leaves aren't food sources for ladybugs. Ladybugs are carnivorous other than a few plant or pollen mildew feeding ladybird bugs such as the twenty spotted lady beetle [Psyllobora vigintimaculata]. Black ladybugs eat the typical ladybird beetle fare of aphids, soft scales, and spider mites. But they also have the common name of 'mealybug destroyer' because of their preference for this particular garden pest.

Spider mites, soft scales, mealybugs, and aphids are what black ladybugs (Cryptolaemus montrouzieri) eat.

Specifically, as is the case with most ladybird beetles, this orange or tan headed, black bodied lady beetle is carnivorous. So it eats standard ladybug fare. But it is particularly conscientious in its pursuit of mealy bugs (Pseudococcidae family). In fact, another of its common names is "mealybug destroyer".

Aphids, mealybugs, soft scales and spider mites describe what black ladybugs eat. The insects in question (Cryptolaemus montrouzieri) number among carnivorous ladybugs. Their favorite prey nevertheless tends to be mealybugs (Pseudococcidaefamily), which prompt the black ladybug's nickname as mealybug destroyer.
