Each type of bomb served a different purpose, whether it was to cause damage and destruction, start fires, or penetrate fortified structures.
Since the beginning of the Gulf Wars, there have been a proliferation of roadside bombs. They are called improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The majority of the bombs dropped on London in World Wars I and II exploded. They killed and injured people and destroyed property. Some unexploded bombs are still found from time to time.

They do not have to, however bombs are an effective weapon for destroying the enemy and therefore are usually used. But for instance if neither group had bombs, then obviously they would not be used. Also if it was say a paintball war you have an example there.
Yes--There are bombs that are magnetic.When two magnectics touch the bomb will go off. Sometimes it can start a charge. Bombs in general, no.
