Yes, different types of butterflies have different names. This is to prevent confusion between the different types of the butterflies. They also help to identify and classify the butterflies and provides 'clues' about which species are closely related. Having different names for different butterflies also avoids confusion of two or more common names being given to the same animal/insect. Sometimes the scientific names will change, even the well recognized ones, and can sometimes be altered when new information about the creature is discovered or becomes available in other ways.
