yes. it can because it is in a desert
Yes, you do have to water it. About once every few weeks.
In cacti the leaves have become reduced ( to prevent water loss via transpiration) and the stem has become the photosynthetic body. Being in the stem there are no or very few stomata ( where water is lost from) and the water is able to be stored in the stem to help it survive long times without water. I researched this online this is not my work!
Yes they do have cacti. Epiphyllum, Rhipsalis, and Schlumbergera are a few genera of cacti that grow in the rainforest.
That would depend upon the species. Small cacti would take years to absorb that amount of water but a large, thirsty saguaro could absorb that in a few days.
Cacti grow mostly in desert and arid areas.I bought a few miniture cacti as a present for my nephew.
Cacti can not grow in most areas of the desert. However, there are a few areas that receive dense fog off of the Pacific Ocean and the condensation from this fog allows cacti to grow in these areas.
it stores water
some animals, such as the desert tortoise get water from cacti and very few flowers that survive in the desert, other animals such as meat eaters can get water from their prey. Some animals can also drink water from seeds.
There are areas that receive little rain but dense fog moves in from the Pacific Ocean and provides enough moisture for lichens and a few cacti to survive. There are rare oasis were a few more plants can survive but these are quite uncommon. Most of the desert is devoid of plant life, however.
In cactus the leaves are reduced to spines in order to prevent water loss through transpiration though the stomata.Besides, the stem is also covered by a waxy coating which prevents water loss. Thus, cactus requires very less amount of water in order to survive
Very few cacti are eaten as many have toxic qualities that make them unpalatable. One cactus that is popular, especially in times of drought, is the prickly pear. They will be consumed by javelinas, rabbits, deer, pronghorns, desert bighorns, some small rodents as well as tortoises.
When storing vacuoles supply you should a few things. You should have water, food, light and blankets.
