Most chain stores stopped repairing VCR's, you will have to go to a specialty electronic repair store.
Someone can find a place to repair a VCR at many computer shops or shops that still sell VCRs, such as HMV or RadioShack. Older videos stores usually are able to provide repairs.

VCRs do not support HDTV. You will not be able to record HD. You will be able to record a converted HD signal but will lose the quality.
