Male and female Chimps have been known to eat the children of competitors within a community and unlucky females from neighboring groups who wonder into their territory. This infanticide serves the purpose of clearing out any genes that might compete with their own. For instance, a male who becomes the new alpha of a group will sometimes kill the youngsters because they were most likely fathered by the previous leader. This leaves the community to be flooded with the genes of the new guy.
