I believe so. My husband went out to pick up a chipmunk that a cat had brought up to the house. Went out to pick it up and I told him to take care as it was probably playing dead and it was. I think when they stop moving the cats lose interest. I have been bitten 3 times in removing what I thought was a corpse. Up on my tetanus shots.
