Christianity has one God. Since early centuries, Christians speak of God as "Triune" or "The Trinity:" Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These "persons" of the Trinity are "three in one," not three separate gods.

For those who believe in diety, the belief in "only one God" is actually quite rare. Catholics for example, believe in Jesus, Mary, a host of saints and an infallible Pope here on Earth who are all worthy of adoration and worship. Protestants believe in the trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Though professing to believe that they are actually one and the same, The Bible clearly portrays Them as speaking and even disagreeing with One Another. In the book of Genesis, He/They created man, saying "Let Us make him in Our image."

The Bible also speaks of many "false" Gods such as Baal, Satan (whom God created) and of many false Gods to come. But even though it says "false God" it does not say "non-existant God." Contemporaries of the Bible indeed believed in a host of many Gods that were to be avoided. And the book of Revelation? Don't get me started on the number of Gods in there.

Islamic faith also professes a monotheistic (One God) creed, yet worship many dieties such as Mohammed, Allah and Jesus.

However, in the light of the logical faculties of most people who accept mythology as fact without questioning it, one can understand that they may miss the logical incongruities.

AnswerThe answer above shows a lack of real knowledge about God.

All Christians, whether Catholics or Protestants, all Jews, all Muslims worship the One God - whether He is called Allah, YHWH, The Trinity or whatever.

Catholics do not 'worship' Mary nor the saints or the pope. They give them due respect and veneration, but that is verydifferent from worship. They give the title 'Mother of God' to Mary (hence she cannot be 'God'!) as she gave birth to Jesus.

Christians worship One God - but in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit - just as humans have a body, mind, and soul, or I have three identities as a father, a husband and an Answers.com contributor! I'm still one person! The Trinitarian aspect of God is seen in scripture in many places - as just two examples the very end of Matthew's gospel, and in Genesis, as stated above. However the previous contributor failed to add the next verse to ""Let Us make him in Our image." . The actual passage reads:

[Gen 1: 26-27] Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

... which shows the singularity of God, yet the plurality of persons within the Trinity.

The 'false gods' (small 'g') of the Bible refer not to God, of course, but to those who either set themselves up as a god (such as some of the Roman emperors did) or someone or something that is humanly invented (such as the Golden Calf) which are then worshiped as an idol. The greatest of these, these days, is money of course, but equally power, fame, fast cars, worship of pop stars - in fact anyting that detracts from God as being central to one's life, can be thought of as a false 'god'.

Monotheism means belief in one god. This can be confusing because Christians believe in the Trinity. The Trinity as explained by many Christians is one God. Three aspects of one. If however this is true than it is hard to see how any other religion would be called polytheism.

Is Jesus a Muslim prophet or a Christian god?

I think Jesus is both - prophet to the Muslims and god to the Christians. Both cannot be correct one must be right and one must be wrong. If the Christians are correct with their belief (John 10:30) - the Muslims will have some explaining to do. If the Muslims are correct with their belief (John 17:3) - the Christians will have some explaining to do.
