I've sat through 4 different college admissions discussions with representatives of 7 different Universities. Almost all accept the highest SAT score when making admissions decisions.
All colleges have different timelines for when SAT scores are due. Go to a particular school's website and under admission, you can find out their specific timeline.
Yes, Roxbury Latin has the highest SAT scores in the nation, with an average of 2230 out of 2400
Bowdoin, Bates, Hampshire
You can request SAT Scores to be sent to colleges using the CollegeBoard website. Your SAT Scores will also be stored by CollegeBoard on their website and can be accessed on demand.
PSAT scores give you a general idea of what score you would make on the SAT. Adding a zero to your PSAT score gives you a ballpark number of what you would make on the real thing. The highest score possible on the PSAT is a 240, while the highest score on the SAT is a 2400. The PSAT is not an acceptable test to send to colleges in place of SAT scores. However, the PSAT can earn you recognition with scholarships for making a high enough score.
Most colleges will accept both, but you will find that, typically, colleges on either US coast will prefer the SAT and colleges are more inland will prefer the ACT.
How about the HUMAN RACE?
Colleges take the highest reading score, the highest math score and the highest writing score out of all the tests you've taken. So if there was a really bad essay topic, you can take it again and they will take the higher of the scores.
1700 on the new sat grading system
Colleges look at three things that all add up to 100%. Your GPA is 50% of it, sat/act scores are 25%, and your application and essays and extra curricular activities are the other 25% so no sat scores are not more important. Hope this helps!
