The assumption would be that they are a more valuable asset however since they are generally in practice with a specific dentist or group practice the difference is only rarely noted and rewarded. Production is usually the key to financial reward in this essential profession. In Nursing an RN(BSN) is routinely rewarded over the RN, is advanced more rapidly and gets preference in assignments. The skill sets may not match, but the picture seems to indicate that Dentistry considers hygenist as liscenced layman instead of professionals.
