∙ 13y agoI believe it's because humans have more treatment. By this I mean that humans take care of themselves by going to the doctor more, getting flu shots, wash everyday, and not only that, humans KNOW alot about their own bodies than dogs do. When a dog has a flea, all they really do is itch, but when humans have lice or something, they wash their hair or go to the doctor. Hope this helps.
Ummm, actually dogs are not "made" to live a longer period of time. Their parts "wear out" sooner than ours. The age much more quickly that we do, 7 years to our one. Going to the doctor has nothing to do with it, unless a younger dog has a medical problem that needs attention. Otherwise, they just age 7 times faster than a human.

∙ 14y agoIt's just something that's been made up to create an easy way to compare the age of the dog to the age of a human. A dog at two human years is comparable to a human teenager and a dog at 3 human is an adult. A dog at 10 human years is like a senior citizen.
