Yes, it is perfectly okay to take your ferret outside, they enjoy digging around in the dirt and grass, But make sure your ferret has had his vaccinations - especially canine distemper - it is highly contagious and always fatal to ferrets. Flea and heartworm preventative - A few fleas on a ferret can cause anemia and ferrets can get heartworms. Beware of large animals around ferrets - like some terrier type or hunting dogs my perceive ferrets as prey and attack. Always make sure your ferrets is leashed and harnessed.

Yes you can, however on a circumstance. You must "Ferret Proof" your house.Meaning you should train your ferret to use a litter box (which may take up to several months, so you have to be patient), so try hard not to let your ferret out of your sight. Other preventive measures include, searching your house for any small holes or areas where danger is possible. Keep in mind, ferrets are flexible agile creatures that fit and squeeze themselves in places you wouldn't think it was capable of fitting in. An lastly, keep small and precious items hidden away because ferrets are curious creatures. Items like eating utensils, fans, clothing and other necessity items should be hidden.

A ferret that is well looked after will love its owner and not wish to run away. However, ferrets do not have the homing instinct that cats and dogs have so, if they manage to get out of your house, will get lost and are unlikely to ever be seen again as they're unable to survive in the wild.

A ferrets can stay outdoors as long as the temperature is below 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the cage is in an enclosure to shelter them from the wind and rain.

Ferrets also need to have plenty of human contact and not be left alone outdoors.

A domestic ferret cannot be in temperatures above 80 degrees Fahrenheit (or 26 degrees Celsius), less if in high humidity. If the ferret is acclimated, with plenty of cool water, shade and a fan - about 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Ferrets have poorly developed sweat glands and will go into a heatstroke in temperatures above 90 degrees Fahrenheit (or 32 degrees Celsius).

Should you get a cage or a hutch for your ferret?

Depend on where it's going to be kept - A cage is meant to be used indoors, as a hutch is for the outdoors. I would recommend the largest cage you can afford, as ferrets are not caged animals, you cage them for their protection.

When should I cage my two ferrets and when should I let them free roam?

Ferrets are not caged animals, but you cage them for their protection. Most ferret owners cage ferrets when they're not at home or unable to supervise them when free roaming. Ferrets need about 4 hours daily time out of their cage in a ferret proofed environment. Ferrets being burrowing animals by nature are subject to crawl and fall asleep into places that can be dangerous and you cannot get them out, like in major appliances, couches, recliners (very dangerous for ferrets). I personally do not cage my ferrets, but keep them in a bedroom totally ferret proofed so they are safe

How many ferrets of the same litter can you keep in a cage?

You can keep them all in the same cage provided it has plenty of room and they aren't confined too much. A ferrets cage size at minimum should be at least 3 foot width X 2 foot depth X 2 foot height. A large, well designed cage for ferrets is a necessity especially if you plan on keeping more ferrets in the same cage.
