Do firefighters save cats from trees?

Why do you call a fireman to get your cat out of a tree? Firemen have ladders that they use to get people out of burning buildings. You call them to get your cat down from a tree because not only are they trained, but have the equipment to do it also.

Not really, this is just a joke commonly on tv and in books and it might happen but I wouldn't count on it...

Actually all firefighters respond to much more than fires, they are usually first on the scene! for accidents, shootings, heart attacks! not just big city firefighters are busy! some people don't want to hear about tax dollars being waisted on rescuing kittens but there are some nice guys who do like to do nice things for the people in their neighborhood! Most cats do come down in their own time but there is always the exception! When Salem was a kitten he was chased up a huge tree by a coyote during a bad storm and was there for almost a day until we found him and I was lucky enough that the chief firefighter was nice enough to save him!
