Good and difficult question. It has been suggested that forgiving is a path to psychological healing, because holding a grudge has adverse effects on ones psychological well-being. This would be a good reason to forgive even the unrepentant, because it will help you, while not forgiving may not have the desired effect of punishing the perpetrator, but negatively affect your psychological well-being. Having said that, forgiveness, especially for the unrepentant, is a thorny ethical topic, because it may amount to tolerating evil. Being an agnostic, I have not addressed any religious aspect of forgiveness here, which may have different implications depending on ones denomination/faith.
It is possible to forgive an unrepentant person to free yourself from harboring resentment or anger towards them. Forgiveness is for your own healing and peace, not necessarily to absolve the other person of their actions. However, setting boundaries and protecting yourself from further harm may also be necessary.

If you have asked that person from the bottom of your heart to forgive you and you know in your heart to be sincere.....then the ball goes back to his/her court. Then you should rest in the fact that you did your part. So it shudnt be hard to forgive yoself...

No church can forgive sin. No vicar, priest or whoever can forgive sin unless that sin was committed against that person. When one sins against God then only He can forgive.
You can't force another person to forgive you. The best you can do is sincerely apologize and hope.
Alexander Pope is the person the quote "To err is human, to forgive divine" is attributed to.
