Under Ground
The Ice age
The Americas originally started out in S. America about 23 million years ago. like most other ground sloths when the Americas first connected they moved up north. ground sloths were some of the only fauna that moved to N. America, many of the N.America species moved south though. the giant ground sloth died out or became extinct 10,000 years ago.
Prehistoric sloths lived in various habitats across the Americas, including North America, South America, and the Caribbean. They inhabited diverse environments such as forests, grasslands, and even mountainous regions. Some sloth species were adapted to live in trees while others were ground-dwellers.

no they stay in trees to live that's where their food is They go to the ground to defacate.
The ground sloths originally evolved in South America. Two million years ago, the Isthmus of Panama connected North and South America. After that, the ground sloths spread into the southern parts of North America, all the way into the southern USA.
for as long as we known they have been found around the southern tip of Australia probably after the super continent started separating. it is not sure how or what they survived on because the giant sloth had a weak digestive system and most plant material they ate were very hard to find.
The trees provide a natural protection from predators such as jaguars and eagles; it's safer for sloths to remain motionless and camouflaged off the ground.
