No, I wouldn't put them in the same cage, I don't think they would get on too well.

well...a two to three foot cage is recommended for one gerbil and if you two most likely a three foot cage or a four foot cage would be best to make sure you don't spend to much money ...make sure you have two of the same kind of gerbil..boy and boy ...girl and girl because when gerbils have babies they have alot and then you need a bigger cage or multiple cages. =P
What kind of environment should you put your gerbil in?
A cage that is for hamsters or gerbils. Something that has more than one level is ideal, to keep them entertained, but nothing too extravagant. Rotastak cages are generally good for gerbils but can come with an excessive amount of tubes/tunnels etc. gerbils just won't use that kind of thing. You could use a plain one story aquarium as well, your gerbil would need some other things to keep it entertained as well though. I recommend a pair of smallish aquariums as gerbils love to dig in the bedding and will push it onto the floor in a wire cage. i usally put 4 inchs of bedding on the floor as well as tissue boxs and toilet paper tubes. i wouldn't put anything in the cage that's not ceramic or metal unless you don't mind them chewing on it. the most important part of a gerbils cage is, another gerbil :3
Are hamsters better pets than gerbils?
Well it depends on how you live.Gerbils are small and like to be held while a hamster likes to be on the ground,cage,etc.If you ask me I would take the hamster because it is oderless
Why do gerbils keep on chewing on the bars in my cage?
Gerbils are rodents, and rodents' teeth NEVER stop growing. So you need A LOT of chew toys in the cage, but the bar chewing is a way to file their teeth down. Even if you have chew toys, they can be picky so you mayhave to try lots of toys. Store bought apple branches work well for my mice. Your gerbil may like them too! You can buy them in most Pet Smarts. :)
Do gerbils like attention?
Gerbils don't mind the occasional petting but can bite when they don't want to be held or are frightened. Loud name calling can be confusing or frighting (low name calling in a high pitch voice as well as clicking of the mouth is better). Often gerbils will escape approaching hands when in the cage so just let your hand dangle in the cage so they can smell you and then grab them gently. In some cases the gerbil will bite or nip (its because you hand may smell like food) always handle with washed hands WITHOUT SOAP.
