Yes when it is there.
Yes they can, I had a grasshopper in my pool for about 2 days straight and went to see if it died. It was still moving and could crawl around.

They live in grassy areas.
grass
The natural habitat of grasshoppers is meadows and fields, but they will live in any area that has a good amount of food sources. Grasshoppers live all around the world and come out during the summer time.
They live in the topsoil of the earth.
Grasshoppers will go into sheds, buildings, crevices, and other places when it rains. Some grasshoppers will just stay on the grass or whatever vegetation is nearby when it rains.
Think about it. They live in a grassy environment. And the jump.. or hop. Grasshoppers! :)
