Guinea pigs are native to South America and so can survive heat. But for tame guinea pigs it's best to make sure that you have an indoor cage away from direct sunlight, with a shady spot and somewhere dark to hide. If you have a run, don't put them out in the middle of the day because they will overheat. Try shady spots, putting a cover over the run or waiting for a breeze.

∙ 13y agoNo they don't. Guinea pigs never shut their eyes for longer than 5 minutes at a time but they do sleep and it really doesn't depend on how light or dark it is.

∙ 13y agoYes, Guinea pig need to have the opportunity to go outside into the sun sun but also have a place in the shade to hide if it's too hot.
