If the state, agents of the state, criminal entities, or others of whom I have no knowledge of their ability with a weapon, or philosophy of gun ownership hold the guns, then no, I would not feel safe. If I owned the gun, it would not necessarily make me feel any safer than owning a hammer or any other tool.
