They usually require less power, but you can get a very small bulb that will run less power. All in all though, halogen is the least efficient when it comes to heat, power, and amount of lumens (light) it projects.
Some halogen bulbs run on 50 v, others run on other lower or higher voltages (I have one that runs on 240 v). You have to match the bulb and the supply.

100 watts is 100 watts no matter how you add it up.
It would really depend on how many lights on your string and which bulbs you use. Led bulbs are much more cost effective and cheaper to run, although the initial outlay is more. A 200 bulb string using 140W and on for around 10 hours a day would cost around £70 a year, a similar set using LED bulbs would cost around 90% less per year.
To answer this question the voltage of the bulbs is needed.
Like other types of bulbs, halogen bulbs also come in different sizes or capacities.

LED lighting is more cost efficient in the long run, although the initial cost may be higher. Light Emitting Diodes use less power than conventional bulbs, and even fluorescent bulbs.
These bulbs are expensive and they run cost close to $70.
Halogen
Candelabra bulbs are initially more expensive than regular bulbs however they are more energy-efficient in the long run. This energy efficiency offsets their original outlay cost as they use less electricity.
Light bulbs last an incredible long time so you just change them when they start to dim. To save energy and money you may want to switch to more environmentally friendly bulbs. They cost more at first but pays for itself in the long run.

LED light bulbs are more energy efficient and environment friendly. The best thing with LED light bulbs is that, you will get huge savings in the long run because of its longer lifetime.
Cost and aesthetics. Compact flourescent bulbs have an initial cost much higher than incandescent bulbs, though they are cheaper in the long run. CFLs also emit light that "looks" different than incandescent bulbs, and may not work for the desired application such as high intensity lights for work areas.
