You need to be more specific with your question. Are you asking how long you can leave your hamster while you go away for a few days? Or, are you asking how long can a hamster live alone as the only hamster? If you are concerned about your hamster possibly becoming lonely for another hamster, don't worry, because they are naturally solitary animals. Normally, they are only together to mate or if a mother is taking care of her young pups.

If it's a Syrian then it MUST live alone but if it's a dwarf then it would be better with a pair or group. Female Chinese dwarf hamsters MUST NOT be in a pair. Have two male Chinese hamsters or if you want baby hamsters then male and female.

A Chinese hamster isn't much different than any regular hamster. When you first adopt it, you should leave it in its cage for about 2 days without disturbing it. On almost any day after that, you should try to play with it at least once a day for less than half an hour. You don't have to play everyday but don't overdue the amount of playtime either. A hamster may begin to become untamed if you don't interact with it too often.

Recap: When you buy it, leave it alone for 2 days. On a regular day, try to play once or more each day.

You should never leave a hamster by itself because it needs to be looked after daily, so it would be best to leave it at a nearby pet shop. They can look after it when you're away.

Yes, hamsters usually live on their own in the wild, and they prefer to have their own habitats as pets.

Can hamsters stay alone for a weekend?

Yes, you can leave a hamster alone for a weekend. I have left my hamster alone for up to a week. Obviously, you can't just leave them as is, you need to make sure they have enough food and water for the amount of time you are gone. You should do these things before you leave: * Make sure the hamster(s) cage is clean before you leave. * You should know how much water your hamster drinks in a few days, so leave him at least that much water. I recommend completely filling the bottle up with clean water on the day you leave even if he will not drink that much in the time you're gone. * Make sure to fill his food bowl up. Make sure he has enough food for however long you are gone. If you will be gone longer and think he won't have enough food, buy a hamster food log. They are inexpensive, provide more food for extended stays, and my hamster loves them. * Make sure his cage is out of direct sunlight while you're gone. If you do all of that, he should be fine!
