In the wild, Hermit Crabs live in the Caribbean, where it is always humid and warm year round. I have found that no matter how many heaters I put on their tank they are less active during the winter because they are out of their element. They try to stay together and not move from the warmest spot because they are not used to temps below 65.

NO! Hermit crabs can't eat food coloring. the chemicals in it could kill them.
I have never seen it but I feed mine veggies
They eat fruits, like apple, grape, strawberry, pineapple, and coconut. (These are some examples). They can also eat some types of meat, and they eat these because Hermit Crabs live near the ocean, Unless you are talking about Marine Hermit Crabs (hermit crabs that are underwater). Hope this helps.
Small fish, plankton, and other hermit crabs
