They could eat rice but normally dont and usually chose not to and they mostly like a variety of food like meats,oatmeal,and other things but be carefull what you give them. oh and they really like raisens

Hermit crabs eat a wide variety of foods. They are scavengers by nature. They use their large claw to hold the food, while breaking off little bits with their smaller pincer. They can eat very hard substances, such as cuttlebone (a great supplement for your pet hermit crab's diet, providing a good source of calcium), and they also love softer foods, like fruits and vegetables.

If you have a pet hermit crab, it has been found that the commercial foods that are most common contain a preservative that is a slow toxin for the crabs (Ethoxyquin). It is best to feed them a home made diet, with a HUGE variety of foods, with daily offerings of foods with protein (meats), calcium and chitin (shrimp - freeze dried or with the exo still on, mealworms), fruits and veggies for their oils and enzymes and juices. Dried food is not enough, they do need fresh as well. You can feed them foods you cook for your own family, just cook meats without seasoning first (tiny bits are enough), and serve cooked or raw veggies (again, no butter or seasonings). Table salt is not good for them as it contains anti-caking agents that can be unhealthy for them. Even processed sea salt is not good.
