Yes, horses eat their own poop. Any age horse will do this, but the question is why?...Well, because they lack nutrients/mineral supplements particularily. Foals eat mother's feces to help get proper digestive bacteria in their system. I have seen horses eat feces when stalled or on pasture. They have done so because of something lacking in their nutrition. If the horse is upset about something they may get a tummy ache and seek bacteria to heal the problem.

I have used electrolytes to treat the problem. Also, a good supplement will help. Check with your vet, but a prebiotic, probiotic or other supplement may be in order.

Be sure the horse has a salt block, fresh water and plenty of good hay. Excercise is essential as well. (see the dicussion section). I have been working with horses for about 30 yearsnow and have seen this in various situations. Each situation is individual...but don't get upset about it. Take a positive action to help your horse.
