Tigers have very large claws and they could do tremendous damage if they scratch you, and yes, it would hurt. But looking on the bright side, it is extremely unlikely that you will ever run into a tiger that is not in a cage or otherwise controlled by its trainer (such as in a circus performance). There are still wild tigers in India, so if that is where you live, then you do face some risk of being scratched by a tiger.
