You do not have to be certified in CPR to try to help another. It is a good idea to be trained. You need to know when to use CPR as well as how to do it properly. Using CPR on someone who has a heartbeat can cause more damage than they already have. Plus, if you have a heartbeat but no breathing, you can use rescue breathing and save a life. Get the training.

Do you need to obtain consent before performing the Heimlich Maneuver on a conscious adult?

I'm not sure if this is a joke. A person who is in need of the Heimlich Maneuver cannot speak -- I suppose they could nod. In any event, in most states there are Good Samaritan laws that protect people from lawsuit who are trying to help others in a medical emergency.

What happens if your girl swallows a chicken bone?

If it is lodged in your throat, and you can't get it out, have someone perform the Heimlich Maneuver. If you are alone, pull your fist into your upper abdomen, or bend over the back of a chair and force it against your abdomen. **Though, I highly doubt that anyone needing the Heimlich would have the time to do an internet search to find this answer. As a matter of fact, it was the 3rd result on Google for me. That said, if you DO need the Heimlich, you're probably currently choking to death on your floor and can't read this right now. Sorry.**

Do you do CPR if person is cyanotic?

CPR is performed only when there is no heartbeat. A person may be cyanotic (blue) for several reasons- choking, extra cold, a collapsed lung, etc. Only when there is no heartbeat do you perform CPR (Part of CPR training is checking for a heartbeat and respiration) The person MAY be choking, and need the Heimlich Maneuver, not CPR. CPR is an extreme measure- even done well, it can still cause injury (cracking ribs)

Heimlich maneuver?

DefinitionThe Heimlich maneuver is an emergency technique for preventing suffocation when a person's airway (windpipe) becomes blocked by a piece of food or other object.See also:Choking (for conscious infant under 1 year)Choking (for conscious adult or child over 1 year)Choking (for unconscious adult or child over 1 year)Heimlich maneuver on selfAlternative NamesChoking - Heimlich maneuver; Abdominal thrustsConsiderationsThe Heimlich maneuver can be used safely on both adults and children, but most experts do not recommend it for infants less than 1 year old. You can also perform the maneuver on yourself.First AidFor a conscious person who is sitting or standing, position yourself behind the person and reach your arms around his or her waist.Place your fist, thumb side in, just above the person's navel and grab the fist tightly with your other hand.Pull your fist abruptly upward and inward to increase airway pressure behind the obstructing object and force it from the windpipe. If the person is conscious and lying on his or her back, straddle the person facing the head. Push your grasped fist upward and inward in a maneuver similar to the one above. You may need to repeat the procedure several times before the object is dislodged. If repeated attempts do not free the airway, an emergency cut in the windpipe (tracheostomy or cricothyrotomy) may be necessary.ReferencesHirshon JM. Basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation in adults. How do you get an esf hit in need for speed rivals?

To achieve an ESF (Emergency Shunt Function) hit in Need for Speed Rivals, you must be driving as a cop and get close enough to a racer to initiate the maneuver. When you're in proximity, press the designated button (usually the right trigger or a specific button on your controller) to perform the ESF. If executed correctly, this will disable the racer temporarily, allowing you to catch up or maneuver them off the road. Timing and positioning are crucial for a successful hit.
