Best Answer

They can bite - it depends on the temperament of the individual lizard. I have been bitten on a number of occasions over the 25+ years I've been keeping reptiles. Some Iguanas I've had have been really docile - while others have been outright nasty ! Males tend to be more aggressive than females.

Are green iguana venomous?

Yes and no. Green iguana lizards do have venom-secreting glands on both their upper and lower jaws. Like even on of some monitor lizards (the best known being the Komodo Dragon), their venom reduces blood pressure and prevents blood coagulation, resulting in shock to the victim. However, because if the green iguana's size and the inefficient method of delivery of this venom, it poses no threat to humans or animals larger than itself. Used purely for the purpose of subduing small prey, the toxins in a green iguana's bite will do little more than cause throbbing at the bite site in a human.
