There is a great amount of variation in the results of IQ tests. Firstly, a person can score different each time they take it, based on their surroundings and mindset. And some tests may just be slightly skewed toward a particular person's world view. Also, even if the IQ consistently say your friend's IQ is higher, that doesn't mean they are smarter. It only means their IQ is greater. There are many different kinds of intelligence that are not measured by an IQ test, such as emotional intelligence, social intelligence, and kinesthetic intelligence.

IQ, or Intelligence Quotient, does not reflect so much what a person knows as much as how they handle learning and applying new concepts. There are a number of standard intelligence tests. You cannot tell by talking to the person. Some people may know a lot of facts, or SEEM to know, but that does not mean they have a high IQ. All it may mean is they have a good memory.

By the way, in case you think all this is sour grapes, I should tell you that I am a polyglot by upbringing and education, and a mathematician by profession, I am able to score extremely high at IQ tests - well above those whom I consider to be my intellectual peers.
