Studies have shown that SOFT, instrumental music does help you study better. Loud music, music with strong rhythms, or vocal music distracts you because you try to listen to the song instead of studying.

It doesn't really help you study, although it depends on your choice of song, and how can you concentrate. It depends on the person and the choice of songs. Also, it depends on how stressed you are or not. So it depends on which occassion. But most likely yes for many people to make them more relaxed (not rushing).
