Kangaroo rats are rodents, and placental mammals (unlike rat kangaroos, which are marsupials) and native to the deserts of North America. They can be found in the arid and semi-arid areas of North America, specifically, Canada, the United States and Mexico, as long as there is some grass or other vegetation. They dig burrows to shelter themselves from the heat of their environment.

∙ 9y agoNot at all. There are a few colonies of wild wallabies which have been introduced to New Zealand, but the vast majority of kangaroos are native to, and found in, Australia. There are some species of tree kangaroos which are also found on the island of New Guinea, which is neither part of New Zealand nor Australia.
