The only mage tree that gets a "minion" is the frost mage. They have the water elemental. The other two trees, arcane and fire, do not get minions.
However, all mages can use a spell called Mirror Images, which could be sort of a minion, albeit temporarily, and you can't really control them.
Conjure water, it is a spell mages get at level six.
It is impossible to have a pet as a druid, unless you count companions. The only class to have pets are hunters. Warlocks, Death Knights and Mages, also have minions, instead of pets.

In World of Warcraft, the Mage is open as a class option at the character creation screen. The Alliance races that can currently become Mages are Humans, Gnomes and Draenei. At the Horde side, Trolls, Blood Elves and Forsaken can become Mages.
Warriors, mages, death knights, paladins, rogues, and hunters can use one handed swords.
The Transitus Shield is a flight point/quest hub for the sub-zone Coldarra in Borean Tundra. It is controlled by the Kirin Tor mages.
Mages are meant to be "glass cannons". Meaning, they do a heck of a lot of damage, but are easily taken out. In PVP, frost spec'd mages do alittle less damage, but survive a lot better with the slows and Ice Barrier.
No, mages cannot heal at all. They're focused around alot of damage, so no healing there. If you want to play a healing class, you'll have to pick a priest, shaman, paladin or druid
Amber ledge is a flight point/quest hub in Borean Tundra. It is controlled by neither the Horde or Alliance, rather it is controlled by the Kirin Tor mages and the Red Dragonflight.
I'm going to guess that you're talking about Frost Nova, Deep Freeze, or Freezing Trap. The first two are used by mages and the latter is used by hunters.
Redridge Mountains is one of the low-level zones in World of Warcraft, and can be reached by travelling East from Stormwind and Elwynn Forest, the starting area of the Humans. This zone is about level 11-20 in nature, and quests in this area seem to focus around an infestation of Blackrock Orcs and the threat of an insane wizard and his Gnoll minions.
There is no such thing as World of Warcraft: The Frozen Throne. It is called Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne. World of Warcraft is much different.
