Yes they do. Syrian hamsters' are solitary creatures, meaning they like to live alone just as nature intended them to.

They are also very territorial creatures, the female being aggressively more so than the male. The female is usually more possessive and protective of her territory because she has a tendency to have a greater parental investment in the territory than the male.

No attempt should be made to house them together in the same or opposite sex.

Putting a male and female together when the female is not in heat will result in the female attacking the male.

The only time they will tolerate each other is when the female is in heat.

They may play which can look like there fighting and its like puppy playing you don't half to worry but if they look really like there going to kill each-other you should separate them. ;)

P.S Make sure they don't breed!

Can to female hamsters be put together?

never ever put syrian or dwarf hamsters cannot be put together because they fight but boys and girls do not (but they have babies obviously!) they fight and it can lead to death!!! :(so dont do it!!! Edit: Actually, male and female hamsters will also fight in between mating and the male will eat the babies or stress out the mother so much that she will eat them. Hamsters are solitary creatures by nature and so it is best to keep them apart once they aren't babies anymore.

When the babies are born, the male will have to be seperated because he could get jelOus and hurt them. The babies can live with the female for a couple of months but then you have to seperate the male and female babies because then they start to breed again

What is better a male or female Syrian hamster?

I have read that a female hamster's hormones kick in every couple of days. This makes them very mean weekly. If I were you I would go with a male. You are much safer on getting a nicer hamster if you get a male. I would recommend a Syrian hamster. They are the nicest of all the hamster breeds. DO NOT keep them in the same cage. Syrian hamsters DO NOT get along with their own breed!!
