Have been watching a nest in a small tree in our courtyard. The mother and father birds took turns on sitting on the eggs and then when the babies hatched they continued to keep them warm and feed them until they got bigger and there was not enough space. The parents seem to go away and come back every so often during the day to bring them food. It was approximately 2 weeks from hatching, to them flying away. There were 2 eggs that hatched. One of the birds flew off yesterday and the second left today.

Generally the eggs have to be kept warm by one of the parents to ensure that they will hatch. For that and other reasons, including the possibility of predation by snakes and and other predators, birds do not normally leave their eggs alone.
