Yes, people beleived in witches and wizards, but wizards weren't really common. People would accuse a woman of being a witch. To prove that she was a witch, they used two methods, called "The Float" and "Needle". The Float was when the woman was tied with rope in their hands and feet, then thrown into a lake. If the woman was not floating, she was innocent, but she was not pulled back out and left to drown. The Needle was when they poked her with a needle, looking for the Devil's Spot. The Devil's spot was a place on a witch where she was touched by the Devil, making the area numb to pain. After poking a woman with a needle, and prick her all over her back. After awhile, the needle would start to feel numb. Then she would not cry out and they would have claimed to find the Devil's Spot.
