A:

No doubt some membersof the clergy, if placed in the position of helping survivors, would try to provide stress management support or psychological help, and no doubt they are occasionally successful. However, clergy are not generally skilled at tasks like this and can more often make matters worse. Wiser heads among them would refer survivors of disasters to professional people.

How were people affected by the titanic disaster?

Of the 2,224 passengers and crew, only 705 survived despite having enough lifeboats to accomodate 1,178. 1,519 people drowned as a result of the freezing temperature, or from being dragged down by the sinking ship. After the ship sank and the lights were gone, those in the lifeboats (many of which were barely half-full) tried to rescue the survivors still in the water. Most drowned due to the freezing temperatures. Many survivors recalled the sudden darkness, the screams from survivors that quickly subdued, followed by the deathly silence. The disaster had a massive effect on people across the world, not least the survivors and those most directly responsible: White Star Line. Following the disaster, all ships were required to provide lifeboats for all on board.
