Yes, Narwhals may be found in nature's equivalent of dens. But no, it's not under rocks or in a rock riddled environment that narwhals live. Instead, it's within the fissures and hollowed spaces within the underwater ice formations of Arctic waters. Such places are hiding places for narwhals from predators. Narwhals don't have dorsal fins. So they navigate easily in and out of these underwater habitats. Their dorsally finned predators can't.
Skunks give birth in dens. In nature, the den can be created from an inside an old log, under large rocks, or in another animals abandoned den such as a rabbit or groundhog hole. Unfortunately in crawl spaces under houses, under sheds, and around other human dwellings often make good shelters to create a den. Ultimately the dens will be in a quiet secluded area sheltered from the weather.
Gila monsters find their food in their environment. The prey is found in bushes, shrubs, under rocks, and in small dens.
Wolves don't have nests; they have dens. The dens need to be nearby a stream or other water source. Some examples of a den are: deep hollow riverbank, cleft between rocks, hollow log, space under an upturned tree, and a space under a rock overhang.

Raccoons live mainly in dens, or in hollow trees.
A raccoon's home is commonly referred to as a "den." They often create dens in hollow trees, burrows, or even abandoned buildings. Raccoons are also known to adapt to their environment, sometimes using spaces in attics or under decks as their living quarters. These dens provide shelter and a safe place for raising their young.
