You won't get the best IIts but you will get the new IITs
You can get Metallurgy or Mining with a rank of AIR 6500. But you will not get admission in the old IITs. You have a better scope in new IITs.

No. Do not go for the new IITs, better go for NITs or VIT or BITS or other collages that come among India's Top 20. If you are getting in IIT, you must have also cleared entrance to these collages.
