A non-green leaf lacking chloroplasts will not be able to synthesize food which later on gets converted into starch. So it will not show the presence of starch in the test.

Can photosynthesis occur in the non-green parts of variegated leaves?

No, photosynthesis cannot occur in the non-green parts of variegated leaves because photosynthesis needs chlorophyll to occur, and the non-green parts of the plants lack chlorophyll.

How would you demostate the need for chloropyhll in plants?

You can perform an experiment to show that chlorophyll is necessary by using a a potted plant having variegated leaves.(This ia a leaf having several different colours) Destarch the plant by keeping it in the dark for several days. During this time, no more starch is made and the starch present is used up in respiration. The plant is then placed in strong sulinght fo a few hours. Remove one leaf and test for starch with iodine solution. You will notice that the non-green parts of the leaf turns reddish brown due to the absence of starch. However, the green parts of the leaf turns blue black confirming the presence of starch. Hence, it is demonstrated that chlorophyll is needed in plants.

Whether plants with non green leaves have chlorophyll and can they carry out photosynthesis?

Plants with non green leaves do have chlorophyll and do carry out photosynthesis. It is just that the chlorophyll is masked by other pigments.

Do plants with non-green leaves have chlorophyll and can they carry out photosynthesis?

Plants with non-green leaves have chlorophyll and do carry out the process of PHOTOSYNTHESIS. It is just that the chlorophyll is masked by other pigment.

Is fiber a polysaccharide?

What is the colour of the non-green parts of a leaf after a starch test?

When conducting a starch test green and non-green leaves will react differently. Non-green leaves will not change color, remaining the same. However, green leaves will darken to black or nearly black color.

What happened a non green leaf is tested for starch?

Do the non -green areas of a leaf contain starch?

kritika chauhan- no. you can imitate a test .put 10 drops of dilute iodine solution on it. if it turns blue black than it contains starch. a blue black color indicate presence of starch in a food item. if you will do this test for a non green leaf it will be negative.

How do non-green leaves make food?

they depend on other plants Non-green leaves have other photosynthetic pigments like carotene and xanthophyll in their plastids which help in the process of photosynthesis.
