Animal archaeologists have determined that Pandas generally thrive in high altitudes, particularly in high mountainous areas in elevations 2500 to 2500 metres. Most conducive to their success is a natural forested area, where there's an abundance of spruce, fir, and bamboo thrive. Their natural habitat has shrunk dramatically over the centuries. Today, there are less than thirty optimum areas which support the existing panda population.
