Yes, some people do keep armadillos as pets even though it is against the law in most parts of the United States. If you can manage to keep a baby armadillo alive long enough to live into adulthood, (they tend to die suddenly for no apparent reason) they are generally mellow creatures and are not aggressive unless they feel threatened, in which case they will defend themselves with their claws. If you plan to keep your armadillo indoors and are a light sleeper, having an armadillo may not be ideal because they forage for food at night and will knock over furniture and bumb into things and wake you up while you are trying to get your beauty sleep.

Armadillos are nocturnal and burrow for their food, so if you are a landscape fanatic and care about your yard or garden, owning an armadillo may not be for you. Armadillos also have a musky scent to them that some people don't mind, but others can't stand. Once in captivity, an armadillo will slowly become more and more active during the day as it begins to feel comfortable in its environment. Armidillos have been known to get along well with dogs and usually just mind their own business. They eat things like worms, grubs, ants and other insects. You can buy these things at your local pet store.

Armadillos need a climate that is warm but not too hot. They respond very poorly to climates that are cold and will die if they are kept outdoors.

The only risk of owning an armadillo is that they sometimes carry diseases like rabies and leprosy and usually have fleas. Understandably, this can be a dealbreaker for most potential owners but is not a completely unsolvable issue.

Personally, I think owning an armadillo would be freakin awesome and not too challenging if you are dedicated to taking good care of it. If you only want an armidillo because it would be a cool thing to tell your friends or coworkers, please just let them be because they need as much care and attention as any other pet.

Not really. They cannot be house broken and can cause lots of damage inside as the try to burrow through carpeting. Best to leave these guys outside on their own in nature.
