The main thing people have to remember is carbs are in more then just breads and pastas - they're just complex carbs. You can get carbs from fruit and veggies too - which of course you could not live without!

Carbs are changed into glucose which is the easiest source of energy our bodies have to burn. It would be possible to survive without complex, though it's a lot harder for the body to use something like protein as energy and generally not recommended.
