Believe it or not, BF 1943 is still a popular game online, several years after its release. You wouldn't think so with only 4 maps and 2 game modes, but its simplicity (and the fact most of the current players can't hack more complicated shooters like BFBC2 or BF3) is what keeps players coming back.
Granted, it doesn't have the numbers that it did after initial release, but there's enough playing that the games are usually full.
