Psalm 146:4 says: "His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts do perish." When a person dies, his impersonal spirit does not go on existing in another realm as a spirit creature. It "returns to the true God who gave it." (Ecclesiastes 12:7) This means that any hope of future life for that person now rests entirely with God.

The ancient Greek philosophers Socrates and Plato held that a soul inside a person survives death and never dies. What does The Bible teach about the soul? Adam "came to be a living soul," says Genesis 2:7. He did not receive a soul; he was a soul-a whole person. The Scriptures speak of a soul's doing work, craving food, being kidnapped, experiencing sleeplessness, and so forth. (Leviticus 23:30;Deuteronomy 12:20; 24:7; Psalm 119:28) Yes, man himself is a soul. When a person dies, that soul dies.-Ezekiel 18:4.

What, then, is the condition of the dead? When pronouncing sentence upon Adam, Jehovah stated: "Dust you are and to dust you will return." (Genesis 3:19) Where was Adam before God formed him from the dust of the ground and gave him life? Why, he simply did not exist! When he died, Adam returned to that state of complete absence of life. The condition of the dead is made clear at Ecclesiastes 9:5, 10, where we read: "The dead know nothing . . . In the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom." (New International Version) Scripturally, death is a state of nonexistence. The dead have no awareness, no feelings, no thoughts.

Since the dead have no conscious existence, hell cannot be a fiery place of torment where the wicked suffer after death. What, then, is hell? Examining what happened to Jesus after he died helps to answer that question. The Bible writer Luke recounts: "Neither was [Jesus] forsaken in Hades [hell, King James Version] nor did his flesh see corruption."(Acts 2:31) Where was the hell to which even Jesus went? The Apostle Paul wrote: "I handed on toyou . . . that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that he was buried, yes, that he has been raised up the third day according to the Scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3, 4) So Jesus was in hell, the grave, but he was not abandoned there, for he was raised up, or resurrected.

A person who commits suicide can go to heaven if they know Jesus Christ as their personal savior. There are events and situations in a persons life, even for a Christian that can prohibit them from making correct decisions at a given moment, such as a person who is clinically depressed, has schizophrenia, or is Bipolar. If they get off their medication they can make decisions that are not good for them and, as in the case of suicide, cannot be retracted. If you know someone like this, please, encourage them to 1) remember that the worst of situations will look better even 24 hours from now, and 2) make sure they are taking medications they need, and 3) surround themselves with people who love them, and 4) get the professional help they need to overcome their depression.

If your a Christian or Jew, in the Ten Commandments it says not to kill and that includes yourself and if you pray and ask for God's help he will help you through the tough times in your life.

If you seriously think about the consequences, why would you want to even take a chance? You might go to Heaven, but there is always that chance that you might burn in Hell forever. Now which sounds more like a reasonable choice.

Answer:

Suicide would be considered murder in my book. Also your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and a gift from God. You are not to do anything to hurt your body.

Answer:

Suicide is classed as self murder, as apposed to murder, which is the killing of a human being by a human being. (Moriarty's Police Law). Both of the above answers have much in their favor. One can have their suicide classed as self murder if it is done to escape a more unacceptable punishment i.e. living with guilt or shame. As suggested in the first answer, one of unsound mind is blameless of self murder and any punishment, if warranted, is to be left in God's hands.

Might I suggest that one who is of sound mind will, in this readers opinion, have to receive some form of punishment until the debt is paid. His Hell will be of his own making and not the abode of Satan and his angels. His reward will be to spend the eternities with all others who have committed similar offenses, where there will be a weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.

A different Answer:

Harsh religious strictures act to provoke terror as a suicide prevention measure as much as adherence to traditional doctrine. But they necessarily erect a cruel barrier to those seeking help for themselves as well imposing intolerable grief on those left behind. When any doctrine, however well-meaning, contradicts God's forgiving grace, it cannot be supported as God's Truth.

> As understanding of the biochemistry of the brain as well as advances in psychology developed in the late 20th Century, professional views of suicide began to change from one of criminal behavior to one of mental and emotional illness. Religious attitudes in more progressive Protestant and Roman Catholic teachings also began to change. With the exception of very conservative Protestant and Roman Catholic doctrine, suicide is now regarded as the result of lethal despair stemming from mental illness. Just as a victim of terminal cancer or other physical illness cannot be viewed as morally responsible for their illness, in the same way victims of mental illness cannot be held responsible for their disability.

> Among those seeking a faithful Biblical understanding, it has been recognized that if God's grace is sufficient to preserve God's people (Romans 8: 34-39) then suicide cannot be the single exception that negates God's grace.

Another View:

Past-life and in-between life regression research as well as near-death experience research both offer insight on this heated issue.

There was the case of a man who was hypnotically regressed back to having been in World War 2, as an American prisoner of war (POW) at a Japanese concentration camp. The American forces were advancing and would soon overtake the compound. Knowing this, the Japanese guards started killing the prisoners. So that POW decided to end his life by eating broken glass. After his transition, he recalled being visited by an angelic being of light that said he would not be punished for taking his life but that those who mistreated him would be punished later on. This past-life regression case offers a good understanding on how suicide pans out on the Other Side.

Transitioning as a result of heroic or altruistic deeds does not result in being punished. For example, if you transition from throwing yourself on to a live grenade to save one or more fellow soldiers, or save a child from a burning building, only to then be overcome by smoke inhalation, then there is no punishment. The Light of God views those deeds as heroic acts.

Moreover, if you are in a situation that cannot be resolved with time and effort, like being terminally ill with Alzheimer's Disease or Parkinson's Disease and also have a brain tumor and/or a heart condition, to then face a slow, painful decline into insanity, paralysis, and eventual death, there there is no punishment at all for ending your life to avoid the inevitable. Case in point: actor and comedian Robin Williams was not punished for his suicide. His transition into The Light was one of relief and elation, not frustration and emotional torment.

However, if you commit suicide in order to escape a problem, situation, or responsibility that you would otherwise overcome if you simply stayed in your body and applied yourself: then you will feel a certain degree of angst and frustration from ending your life prematurely. Emotional pain can be more traumatic than physical pain - especially on the Other Side. That is the punishment you will experience from The Light of God.

The soul is immortal and one's destiny is shaped by one's character and choices thereof.

The Bible doesn't say. But the Bible does say you should not kill anybody and I guess that includes your self.

I think it would be very difficult for a christian to kill him/her self. If you have a relationship with God then God wouldn't let you kill yourself God would "provide a way of escape for you," 1Cor 10:13

This is one of the very few instances where the bible has little to say. I believe the subject of suicide is mentioned about six times total in the entire Old and New Testament. In these cases it is referring to biblical people that actually did commit suicide. But it does not say whether it is a fast-track to hell or not, just that those individuals did it.

There are many theories as to why there is so little information on this very important subject, which lends to the attitude that there may be shades of gray, not all black and white. Catholics strongly feel that any suicide, for any reason, will bring eternal damnation. That is of course possible, but it is not stated that way in scripture.

Maybe the Lord can understand some suicides if done for righteous reasons. That is only just a guess. This does not mean to encourage anyone thinking about suicide, that it is ok. Chances are very good that those people will end up in hell for eternity. It most certainly is not the risk.

What is true is that while a person is still alive they can find forgiveness and redemption. They do not have to make that awful decision which may very well land them in hell.

This brings us to a very important question. If you were to die this very second, do you know for sure, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you would go to Heaven? Let me quickly share with you what the Holy Bible reads. It reads "for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" and "for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." The Bible also reads, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." And you're a "whosoever," right? Of course you are; all of us are. Here's a quick prayer for you. "Lord bless the person reading this with a long and healthy life. Jesus, make Yourself real to them, and do a quick work in their heart. If they have never called upon your name, I pray that they will do so right now." If you would like to receive the gift that God has for your today, say this with your heart and your lips out loud:Dear Lord Jesus, come into my heart. Forgive me of my sin. Set me free. Jesus thank You that You died for me. I believe that God raised You from the dead. Fill me with the Holy Spirit, the peace of God, and the joy of the Lord. Give me a passion to reach the lost, a hunger for the things of God, and a holy boldness to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm saved. I'm born-again. I'm forgiven and I'm on my way to Heaven because I have Jesus in my heart. Thank You Jesus!

When you asked Jesus to come into your heart and to forgive you, He heard you and did so. All of your sins are now forgiven. Always remember to run to God and NOT from God because He loves you and has a great plan for your life. That's VERY good news.

I won't gave an absolute answer on whether people who commit suicide go to hell. But I'll say this, as Ravi Zacharias once said, that I wouldn't want to meet God under those circumstances. Murder is an ultimate violation on the image of God, and that's what we will be doing if we kill someone or ourselves.

I do not think so. Our god is a very loving god!!!! People who make a decision to end their life are already in their own personal hell . I think the good lord sends them back to do life over again until they get it right. God is great !!!

Some say so. I think the threat is to dissuade people from suicide, particularly when it's the result of depression, which is treatable. Many people who do commit suicide are mentally ill and not considered responsible for their actions.

Were do people go when they die?

A persons spirit is what leaves and it either goes to heaven if you dont commit man sins and if god forgives you for those sins as long as you really feel bad about the sins you commited. Or a persons spirit can go to hell if they commit sins and don't go to church to confess them selfs upon a priest(thats when god forgives people for their sins) but if people don't follow the 10 commandments and don't at least pray for god to forgive your sins you go to hell which is a bad thing obviously because your spirit is torchered and god is our creater which gives us eternal life if we go to heaven after some one dies.

Does the bible say you will go to hell if you commit suicide?
