Do pet hermit crabs bite and pinch?

Hermit crabs do not bite, but they may pinch you with their claws.

Hermit crabs may pinch very hard and it might hurt but some can be very social I have 4 hermit crabs and I named one Mr. Crabs and he loves to come out of his shell and play!

Yeah i have 4 crabs too and i love one of them the most. his name is gummbie. <3 well crabs pinch but some like to climb on you (like my gummbie) and they have sharp little claws but they only mean to play with you unless you are bothering them. but that would be mean so dont bother them! : P

YES!! be careful not to let them get a hold on your loose skin-keep hand flexed tight with fingers extended. My daughter had one bite her and we had to hold it under running tap water for at least 5 minutes before he would release his grip. This was after we tried to gently pry him off of her. His grip only tightened during this process. The crab didn't break the skin, but left a nasty red and blue bruise and many tears.

Edit: Do not use tap water on a hermit crab! The chlorine is poisonous to them. Instead set your hand on a flat surface, they will usually let go fairly quickly (5-10 seconds) and walk away.

Hermit crabs usually only pinch if feeling threatened or feel they are in danger of falling. So building a trusting relationship goes a long ways in avoiding painful pinches.

Of course not, They're friendly creatures unless they feel threatened, they may pinch. If they do start fighting or pinching each other, remove the other one A.S.A.P as he could kill the other crab. Yes! They pinch extremely hard and can even draw blood. Keep your hands flat while holding or handling them.

Bite, no-pinch, yes, although it's not real bad. To get the crab off if he gets you just hold under warm water and when it starts to gets hot, he'll let go without hurting it.
